You Can Always Quit

A new friend met up with my partner and me to walk around a man-made lake last weekend. We just moved to a new city, and she invited us out to show us what there is to do on the weekends.

She showed up wearing a t-shirt that said, “You can always quit.”

I’ve been thinking about it ever since, this seemingly sarcastic line in puffy lettering in a bubble font, a rainbow and clouds behind it. As far as I can tell, it was from Today in Tabs and is no longer available.

On first read, the message is, “You don’t have to do anything any longer than you want to.” But I kept thinking about it, and now it says to me something different: “There’s no excuse not to try anything you want to do because if you don’t like it or change your mind about it, then you can always quit.”
